      Il passait tout lĂ -bas, au fond des solitudes,
      Sur la plaine infinie des souvenirs anciens,
      Des vents qui frissonnaient comme tremble un vieux chien
      Lorsque son maßtre meurt, pétri de lassitude.

      Sur la plaine infinie oĂč nul vieux musicien
      Ne passe plus jamais chanter les quiétudes,
      Les bonheurs épicés de joies, de certitudes
      Les vents pleuraient tout bas quelque chose d’ancien.

      Sur la plaine infinie, morne plaine d’herbage,
      OĂč nul havre ne borde un quelconque rivage,
      Sur la plaine infinie, lisse comme un néant,

      Un vieil homme est parti, claudiquant sur sa canne,
      Penché vers le soleil qui se meurt au couchant,
